Case 4A

Mc Donald’s use Virtual Reality to train staffs and managers.

Even VR is expensive, it still saved for Mc Donalds 500k $. Also people are really motivated when taking part in the training.

The conclusion from the case: VR or gamification really help training because it make people exciting about it. There are three things that motivate people: autonomy, mastery and purpose

Case 4B

The cultures of Nando’s created through training were very successful in maintaining the satisfaction of the employees. This also keep the quality of works within Nando’s

Strategy of Nando’s is to create a sense of family to create connections within each restaurant.

Training: 90% of employees enjoy their works

Sales grown from 20 million to 90 million (Pound)

Conclusion from the case: The connection within a company is very important and can be improved through training

Theory part

Key training issue:


Training vs Development

Training providing employees with specific skills or correcting deficiencies in performance.

Development provide employees with the abilities the organization will need in the future

Training influencces present performance, development create more capabilities and flexibility in employees in the long run.

Training can be considered as negative in the eyes of employees.


Managing the Training Process

Consist of three phases:

  1. development and conduct of training, 3. evaluation.
  • 1. Need Assessment Phase

Identify the need of training, level of training through different factors: organization’s culture, mission, business climate, goals, structure.


+ 2. Training and Conduct Phase

Location options:

On the jobs (Job rotaion, Apprenticeships for blue-collar workers, Internships for white-collar workers)

Off the jobs:

Presentation options:

+ 3. Evaluation Phase

The importance of the phase: evaluate that the programme meet the aim or not, so the company can know the cost and benefit of a training programme, then the managers can decide to continue the training or not.

Sometimes the phase is neglected. Funding the study after training may diffucult, but at least the company must caculate the costs and benefit.


Legal Issue and Training

Training must be nondiscriminating.
